This discussion paper documents ACCION's experience with CAMEL™, the financial diagnostic instrument adapted in 1993. It provides microfinance managers insight into financial and managerial areas through which they can build strong, sustainable institutions. It also enables third parties - donors, lenders, investors and technical assistance providers - to assess the strengths and weaknesses of microfinance institutions.
