Troubleshooting problems with downloading

SAVING THE FILE TO DISK

Problem
When you click on the publication ID number in the download center, the document appears in your browser, instead of prompting you to save it on your hard drive.
Solution
Some web browsers (specifically Internet Explorer 4.0 and some older versions of Netscape) have difficulty recognizing a file download request and attempt to open the documents directly in the browser window. Follow the directions below to bypass this error.
For PC Internet Explorer users:
Right click on the link with your mouse on the underlined document name and select "Save Target As..." from the pop-up menu. From the pop-up box, select the location where you would like the file downloaded and press "Save."
PC Netscape Users:
Right click on the link with your mouse on the underlined document name below and select "Save Link As..." from the pop-up menu. From the pop-up box, select the location where you would like the file downloaded and press "Save."
For Macintosh Netscape and Internet Explorer users:
Left click on the link with your mouse and hold the button down until the pop-up menu appears. Then select "Save Link To Disk". From the pop-up box, select the location where you would like the file downloaded and press "Save."

DOWNLOAD TIME EXPIRED

Problem
While downloading the document you purchased, the download time expired, prohibiting you from completing the download.
Solution
Email publications@accion.org and request additional time for download. You will then receive a re-notification of your order by email. At this point, go to http://www.accion.org/download. There, enter your order ID number (your order number). Click "Validate" and you will then see the list of publications available to download. You can then begin the download process again.

DIFFICULTY DOWNLOADING

Problem
You've extended your download time, but still cannot download the documents.
Solution
This problem could be caused by two factors:
  1. Your computer is protected by a firewall or secure server. Many companies use this to prevent employees from downloading certain kinds of material. Ask your MIS administrator if this is the case and, if so, whether s/he can unsecure the server. If not, try downloading the documents from a different computer outside of your workplace.
  2. You are on a dial-up connection abroad. If so, certain documents will be virtually impossible to download due to their length and/or graphically rich content. The only solution for this is to find a dedicated T1 line from which to download electronic publications. You might also consider ordering hardcopies of the documents instead.
If the above solutions do not work, you will need to order hard copies of the documents or email publications@accion.org to have them emailed to you as an attachment. Please be aware that these documents are long and often difficult to send successfully over email.
